What is a Baptist?

Having Baptist in our church name would lead you to think that baptism must be the belief we cherish most. Such is not the case. Though baptism is important, it is not our primary distinctive.

We hold to:

    1.

The Bible as our sole, supreme authority in teaching us what to believe and how we are to live. God gave us the Bible in such a way that it was preserved from any error in its original autographs, and is therefore dependable.

    2.

The need for all people to recognize their need of salvation, and, upon repentance, to place their faith/trust in Jesus Christ as their Savior and Lord.

    3.

Believer's Baptism. Baptism is valid only for those who have repented towards God and believed in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord. The Scriptural method of baptism is to be followed (total immersion) whenever possible.

    4.

Congregational form of government. We hold that each local Baptist congregation is to be independent from control by other religious bodies, while maintaining a voluntary association with them. Each local church governs its own affairs.

    5.

Priesthood of all believers. Every born again believer has access to God through Jesus Christ without the need of any other heavenly or earthly mediator or intercessor. All Christians are, in the biblical sense, priests and saints.

    6.

The Lord's Supper as a memorial celebration and Baptism as a symbol of one's identifying with Jesus by faith, are the only two ordinances recognized as taught in the Bible.
Not only Baptists hold these beliefs, but many Christians of various Protestant denominations do as well.
